A heartbreaking discovery near Camden, New Jersey, has finally brought closure to a missing person's case that stretched over a decade.
Last week, a car pulled from the Cooper River by a search and rescue team turned out to contain the remains of Bernadine Gunner, a woman who vanished without a trace in 2010.
Ms. Gunner, who was 52 at the time of her disappearance, was last seen on July 10th, 2010, driving a 2006 Hyundai Elantra on Park Boulevard in Camden.
According to investigators, she had expressed suicidal thoughts to her family due to job-hunting struggles.
For 14 long years, Bernadine Gunner's whereabouts remained a mystery.
However, a non-profit organization called United Search Corps, dedicated to finding missing people and conducting underwater searches, took up her case.
On May 15th, 2024, the group searched a section of the Cooper River near Route 130 in Pennsauken, New Jersey.
Their efforts led to the discovery of multiple submerged vehicles, including a Hyundai Elantra containing human remains.
United Search Corps promptly contacted the authorities.
News footage captured by SkyForce10 showed a dive team retrieving three vehicles from the river.
Investigators later confirmed the presence of a body in the driver's seat of one car.
This individual was subsequently identified as Bernadine Gunner, according to a reliable law enforcement source.
The location where Ms. Gunner's car was found is particularly striking – it's less than a mile away from her last known sighting on Park Boulevard in Camden.
This close proximity raises questions about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
What really happened to her?
Bernadine Gunner's daughter took to Facebook on May 18th to express her gratitude to United Search Corps for their tireless efforts in locating her mother's remains.
This discovery, while undoubtedly painful, finally provides the family with a long-awaited answer.
