Woman from Virginia Allegedly Murders Three Roommates before going on the run

A woman from Virginia has been taken into custody on charges of murder for the "horrendous" killings of her three housemates.

Alyssa Jane Venable, 23, was apprehended on Thursday in New York State, a day after the bodies of her roommates were discovered in their home in Fredericksburg, Va., according to a statement from the Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office.

The victims, identified as Robert John McGuire, 77, Carol Anne Reese, 65, and Gregory Scott Powell, 60, were found with injuries to their upper bodies, the sheriff's office stated initially.

Authorities were alerted to the situation on Tuesday, June 4, after receiving a request for a welfare check at the residence.

The request was made by Venable’s friend who became concerned after she allegedly made troubling statements.

Before her arrest, Venable's grandmother voiced concerns about her granddaughter's well-being, expressing that she was a danger to herself and in urgent need of assistance.

"I hope that the authorities are searching for her not only as a potential danger to others but also because she might be in danger herself," Venable's grandmother, Jane Venable, told WUSA9.

The suspect, a resident of Spotsylvania, Va., was arrested following a pursuit by New York State troopers, the sheriff's office noted in a subsequent statement.

The chase began after troopers identified her vehicle based on the description provided by Virginia authorities.

Allegedly, Venable refused to stop at a traffic stop initiated by law enforcement.

She was eventually apprehended after her vehicle crashed when police deployed a tire deflation device.

Police have not disclosed the cause of death of the victims nor have they released a potential motive.

Additionally, the sheriff's office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

It remains unclear whether Venable has entered a plea or secured legal representation to speak on her behalf.
