In a recent update, Vermont State Police uncovered human remains while searching for an 82-year-old woman who went missing near her home.
On Sunday morning, July 21, the Vermont State Police (VSP) reported the discovery of human remains during their search efforts for Roberta Martin.
Martin had been reported missing by her neighbors on Wednesday, July 17.
According to the press release, authorities believe that the remains are likely those of Ms. Martin.
However, the final confirmation of her identity will be made by the medical examiner.
The remains were found around 11 a.m. on Sunday in a wooded area off Sand Hill Road in Enosburg, which is close to Martin's residence.
The area has been cordoned off as part of the ongoing investigation.
The search for Martin continues, and the case remains active.
She was last in contact with her family on the evening of Tuesday, July 16, at 11:30 p.m.
The following day, at 11:55 a.m., a neighbor discovered Martin's absence from her home on Butternut Hollow Road, prompting the missing persons report.
At the time she was reported missing, Martin was said to be in good health.
In updates provided by the police, Martin’s disappearance has been described as “suspicious.”
Major Dan Trudeau from the VSP Criminal Division addressed the media on Thursday, July 18, highlighting the unusual nature of Martin's disappearance. “It’s certainly suspicious because we haven’t been able to locate her, and her absence is out of character considering she usually stays in regular contact with her family,” Trudeau explained during a press briefing posted on Facebook.
During the same briefing, Trudeau confirmed that law enforcement had obtained a search warrant for one of Martin's neighbors' homes based on probable cause.
He did not elaborate further on this matter.
As of now, no suspects have been identified in connection with the case.
