Joseph Gerdvil: Man Allegedly Decapitates Parents, Sings 'What’s Love Got to Do With It' After Being Shot by Police
A shocking video shows a California man, accused of beheading his parents and their dog, being shot multiple times by police.
As he lay bleeding on the ground, he sang Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to Do With It.”
On July 9, Orange County sheriff’s deputies discovered Joseph Gerdvil on a street near the San Juan Mobile Estates.
This was after they found a gruesome crime scene in San Juan Capistrano.
Inside a nearby mobile home, they had found the decapitated bodies of his parents, Ronald Gerdvil, 77, and Antoinette Gerdvil, 79, along with their slain dog, authorities reported.
According to reports, one of the heads was placed on a counter in the home.
Gerdvil was located shortly after allegedly assaulting a maintenance worker.
When police approached, they found him covered in blood, speaking incoherently, and throwing a heavy shovel at them.
Despite a deputy’s command to stop, Gerdvil charged at the officer, who then fired five shots from approximately 10 feet away.
The first three shots appeared to have little effect on the 41-year-old.
However, the fourth brought him to the ground, with blood gushing from his wounds.
As officers rushed to provide medical aid, Gerdvil’s bizarre behavior escalated.
At one point, he said, “I love you … I’m sorry you’re gonna have to die.”
“Just finish me off,” he pleaded. “Put one in my head, please. I beg of you.”
While officers worked to stop the bleeding, Gerdvil began singing love songs, including the Tina Turner hit, “What’s Love Got to Do With It?”
He then switched to Stevie Wonder’s “I Just Called to Say I Love You.”
Gerdvil was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was stabilized.
He now faces two counts of homicide for the deaths of his parents.
