Marimar Cora: Missing Woman's Body Found in Sunrise canal, Friends demand answers

Marimar Cora

The body found in a car pulled from a canal in Sunrise was identified as a woman who had been reported missing earlier this month,
according to her friends

Marimar Cora, 41, was last seen on Saturday, August 10.

"She was a very lively, happy, and energetic person. She was fun to be around," said Cora's boss, Tracy Newmark.

"She made customers happy. She was a bartender, creative, and proud of her work."

Cora worked as a bartender at the restaurant Tin Fish in Sunrise, where she just started a few weeks ago.

Newmark mentioned that Cora worked that Saturday and then spent time at another restaurant after her shift ended.

Cora was scheduled to work the next day, but she never showed up.

"She didn’t show up or call," Newmark said. "I called, but no one answered. I texted her, but got no response."

Police have not released any official information yet.

However, Cora’s friends confirmed to NBC6 that her body was found in a black Honda pulled from a canal Tuesday afternoon.

The canal is located behind a shopping plaza on North University Drive and Sunrise Lakes Boulevard.

It is close to the restaurant where Newmark said she spent time that night.

Since Cora's disappearance, her family members have posted flyers on social media to report her missing.

Friends mentioned that Cora was studying cosmetology.

A mannequin head was also found near the area of the canal where the car was retrieved.

Tuesday’s grim discovery is the latest in a series of cars being found in canals with human remains inside.

On Sunday, divers found a car in a canal that contained skeletal remains.

It is believed these remains are from a mother and daughter who went missing 50 years ago.

Hours later, a volunteer dive team discovered a Buick submerged in a nearby lake.

The car contained the remains of an 83-year-old man who had been reported missing in 2004.
