A Deadly Encounter on the Streets of Exeter
Surveillance footage shows Mangori following Lorraine for over a mile.
He followed her all through Exeter’s High Street before he finally approached her.
It remains unclear what was said between them.
However, Lorraine Cox agreed to follow him back to his flat.
Sadly, this would be the last time anyone would see her alive.
For days, Lorraine’s family and friends were left confused and devastated.
They received messages from her phone suggesting she had hurriedly moved to Plymouth.
However, her family knew something wasn’t right.
Additionally, the tone of the message didn't sound like Lorraine's.
On September 23, 2020, Lorraine was officially reported missing, and the search began.
The Dark Reality Revealed: A Life Taken, A Body Desecrated
An investigation led the police to Azam Mangori and he was immediately arrested.
He initially gave them a false identity, claiming to be Christopher Mayer, a homeless man.
His deceit didn’t end there.
He also told a suspicious story about escaping a strict upbringing in Iraq.
Mongori said he would be persecuted for his sexuality if he went back.
However, Investigators quickly saw through these lies.
After thoroughly investigating and tracking Mangori's movements, police discovered Lorraine Cox’s remains in the most gruesome manner.
Mangori had dismembered her body after he killed her.
He hid some body parts in bin bags behind his house and disposed of others in a forest miles away.
Despite his attempts to cover up the crime, forensic evidence and surveillance footage clearly linked him to her death.
Mangori’s actions after Lorraine’s murder were calculated and sinister.
He hacked into her phone and social media and sent messages to friends and family.
He did all this in an attempt to make them believe she was still alive.
Trial and Justice: A Guilty Verdict
Azam Mangori’s trial shed light on his disturbing behavior.
He showed little remorse for his actions.
He claimed Lorraine had died suddenly from alcohol poisoning or a medical episode.
However, experts found no evidence of drugs or alcohol contributing to her death.
Instead, the court heard that Lorraine Cox was likely strangled, possibly with a t-shirt.
The jury swiftly rejected Azam Mangori’s version of events.
Surveillance footage revealed that within hours of Lorraine’s death, Mangori was caught on camera buying supplies to clean up the crime scene.
He was also spotted carrying a large bag days after the murder.
Authorities believe that was when he went to dispose of her body.
In the end, the court sentenced Azam Mangori to life in prison for Lorraine Cox’s murder.
He will serve a minimum of 20 years before he is eligible for parole.
Justice, in some form, was served, but it can never truly bring back the vibrant woman who was taken far too soon.
