An Ohio grandmother has confessed to intentionally shooting her 6-month-old granddaughter while she slept.
Mia Desiree Harris, 43, went on a violent rampage on December 9, 2023.
She used a 9mm pistol to fire several shots at the wooden bedroom door of her granddaughter, Myra.
After breaking down the door, Harris shot the infant in the eye, according to court documents.
During the incident, Harris also punched one person in the face.
She also attempted to shoot another person in the head at close range but missed, before targeting the baby.
Authorities stated that a family argument escalated in their Liberty Township home.
This led Harris to grab the firearm, as reported by WXIX.
When asked by deputies why she shot the child, Harris coldly replied that Myra “was not my grandbaby.”
She also reportedly said she was “sorry, not sorry,” according to Detective Daniel Turner.
Investigators revealed that Harris had alot of hatred towards her family.
Detective Turner said that Harris believed her family was trying to "take all of her money and leave."
She vowed not to let that happen.
He added that Harris expressed a desire to “crucify” her family.
Mia Desiree Harris has reportedly pleaded guilty to felony assault in connection to the shooting.
In exchange for her plea, additional charges related to the assaults on other family members were dropped.
Despite the horrific attack, Myra survived and she is making a remarkable recovery.
Authorities responded to the family’s home around 1:50 a.m. on that fateful day.
This was after Myra’s mother called 911, frantically pleading for help, saying her baby had been shot.
Police arrived to find the infant in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the eye.
She was rushed to the hospital, where she underwent two surgeries, authorities said.
Mia Desiree Harris fled the scene after the attack.
However, she was quickly arrested after witnesses identified her as the shooter.
Harris is currently being held at the Butler County Jail.
She could face up to 15 years in prison when she is sentenced on October 29.
