The Tragic Case of Adam Strong: How Plumbers Exposed a Double Murderer in Ontario, Canada

When crime scene investigators entered Adam Strong's home in December 2017, they stumbled upon one of Canada’s most horrifying discoveries.

Thanks to an unsuspecting group of plumbers, who, while working on a routine job in Oshawa, stumbled upon evidence that would lead to a dark discovery.

Their findings ultimately revealed the horrifying acts of a man who preyed on vulnerable women.

With detailed crime scene analysis, police pieced together the puzzle of Strong's actions, leading to his eventual capture.

But who exactly is Adam Strong, and how did his heinous crimes come to light?

Let’s get into it.

Adam Strong

Who is Adam Strong?

At the time of his arrest, Adam Strong was a 47-year-old man living in a basement apartment in Oshawa, Ontario.

Before his arrest, neighbors described him as a peculiar and quiet man in the neighborhood.

However, hidden within his home was a dark secret that would unravel in late 2017, making him one of Ontario's most notorious criminals.

Strong, who had been renting the unit for over a decade and remained unnoticed, had no notable criminal history prior to his 2017 arrest.

This made him an unexpected figure in one of Ontario's most disturbing murder cases.

Rori Hache

Who Were Adam Strong's Victims?

Adam Strong’s victims were Rori Hache and Kandis Fitzpatrick, two young women with bright futures.

Both women’s lives ended in unspeakable violence, leaving their families devastated.

Rori Hache, 18, was known for her vibrant personality and resilience despite her challenging struggle with substance addiction.

At the time of her death, Rori had learned she was pregnant and was looking forward to a fresh start.

Sadly, she never had the opportunity of being a mother.

In August 2017, she disappeared, leaving her family and community distraught.

Her torso was later discovered in Lake Ontario on September 11, 2017, by a grandfather and his grandson while fishing.

Forensic examination of her torso showed it had been intentionally dismembered and showed signs of trauma, leading to a murder investigation.

Sadly, the rest of her remains were later discovered in Strong’s freezer.

Adam Strong’s second victim was Kandis Fitzpatrick, a 19-year-old from Oshawa.

She was last seen in 2008 and her disappearance had gone cold for years.

But in 2018, during a crime scene analysis of Strong's apartment, investigators discovered her DNA on a hunting knife, linking him to her death after a decade.

How Did Law Enforcement In Ontario Apprehend Adam Strong?

The turning point came on December 28, 2017, when a group of plumbers were called to Adam Strong’s building.

His neighbors had complained about a persistent drain blockage so the plumbers were called to fix the issue.

As they worked, they discovered what appeared to be flesh-like material in the pipes

Alarmed by the discovery, they contacted the Durham Regional Police Service, who launched an investigation of the crime scene.

Police uncovered chilling evidence, including body parts stored in Strong’s freezer and bloodstains splattered across the walls of his bedroom.

Forensic examination eventually revealed that the bloodstains and dismembered remains found in his freezer belonged to Rori Hache.

Additionally, crime scene investigators found Kandis Fitzpatrick's DNA on a large hunting knife in his apartment, linking him to her murder mystery.

Further investigations revealed that Adam Strong had attempted to dispose of Rori Hache's remains by flushing it down the drain, which caused the blockage.

This shocking discovery finally ended his reign of terror.

When he was questioned by officers from the local police department, he immediately admitted to his heinous crimes.

“You’ve got me; the gig’s up," said Adam Strong, further solidifying his guilt.

Justice: Adam Strong Trial and Sentencing

Adam Strong's trial, which featured some of Canada's top lawyers, started in 2019 and ended in March 2021.

Strong was ultimately found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of Rori Hache and manslaughter in the case of Kandis Fitzpatrick.

The evidence, including DNA traces, a hunting knife, and Strong’s chilling confessions, painted a clear picture of his heinous acts.

In March 2021, Strong was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years.

Justice Joseph Di Luca stated during sentencing, "The evidence of brutality and depravity is overwhelming."

The motives for the killings remain unknown till today.

However, prosecutors believe that Adam Strongs crimes were crimes of opportunity and that he never really knew his victims.

In the end, justice was served, but the pain of his heinous acts remains a scar on the Oshawa community.
