On August 8, 2025, Groom walked into the Rehoboth Police Department and reported Kylee missing.
He claimed that she walked off after an argument and he said he didn't know where she went.
During the investigation, detectives discovered that she had left a residential program and taken a rideshare to Groom’s home just two days earlier, on August 6.
Also, Kylee had recently told him she was about 11 weeks pregnant, and prosecutors say an argument broke out over where she would stay.
Later that same day, Kylee sent a chilling text to her sister. It read in part:
“He threw me on the ground and pulled my hair and strangled me. My phone is at 4% and if I die, it was Greg.”

Kylee was active on social media, so when she didn’t post for some days, her family became worried.
According to CBS News, her TikTok had shown her excitedly announcing her pregnancy and, at one point, calling Groom a man who treated her like “gold.”
An extensive search followed, and nearly two weeks later, on Tuesday, August 26, Groom was arrested.
During the investigation, Groom reportedly admitted to killing his pregnant girlfriend after the argument, as per CBS News.
He told investigators that he pushed Kylee, causing her to fall back and hit her head.
Groom then reportedly stabbed Kylee multiple times—twice in the neck and once in the chest then buried her behind a shed on his property
He even drew a “rudimentary map” showing where her body was buried.
Police later discovered a rectangular patch of disturbed dirt about 20 yards from the shed, and on August 26, they uncovered a body believed to be Kylee, buried five feet underground.

Despite the tragedy, her sister Faith Monteiro later told reporters that the couple wasn’t in a violent relationship.
> “I know there’s been a lot of speculation of domestic abuse but that wasn’t the case in their relationship.”
On Wednesday, August 27, 2025, Groom appeared in Taunton District Court, where he pleaded not guilty to murder and several related charges.
He is currently held without bail, with a probable cause hearing scheduled for September 10.
Bristol County District Attorney Tom Quinn addressed the grief felt by the family and community, saying:
“Certainly, this is a very difficult time for them. Extend my sympathies to them and ask them to be patient with the process despite the trauma that they are experiencing now.”
As the investigation continues, the town of Rehoboth is preparing to honor Kylee’s memory.
A “Vigil of Hope for Kylee Monteiro” is set for Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 7 p.m. at Redway Plain & The Veterans Memorial Gazebo.
