21-year-old Laken Ashlee Snelling, a senior at the University of Kentucky and member of the school’s STUNT team, was arrested on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
According to NBC News, she is facing serious charges related to the death of her newborn baby.
On Wednesday, August 27, Lexington police responded to a distress call at Snelling’s home on Park Avenue.
Tragically, the responding officers discovered a heartbreaking scene—a newborn wrapped in a towel and placed inside a black trash bag in a closet.
According to police reports, Snelling admitted to giving birth and then made a series of devastating decisions.
She reportedly admitted to concealing the birth by cleaning all evidence and placing the items, including the infant, into the bag.
As a result, she was arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant.
Snelling appeared in court on Tuesday, September 2, wearing a red dress, keeping her head down, and speaking very little.
She pleaded not guilty to all charges, and the judge set her bond at $100,000, which has since been posted, according to lex18.com.
Even though she has posted the bond, Court documents reveal that she was released under strict conditions.
Snelling is now on home incarceration with no ankle monitor and is required to live with her parents at their home in Jefferson City, Tennessee—roughly 200 miles from Lexington.
The Fayette County Coroner’s Office is still working to determine the infant's exact cause of death.
This detail is a crucial part of the ongoing investigation and could influence the direction of the case.
The University of Kentucky confirmed Snelling’s status as a student-athlete, stating,
"We can confirm that she has been a member of the STUNT team for the last three seasons. All other questions should be directed to the Lexington Police."
