A heartbreaking incident happened at a Walmart in Kingsville, Texas, which led to the arrest of a man named Jerry Lee Martinez.
His teenage daughter is accused of giving birth inside the store’s restroom and leaving the newborn in a trash can.
Walmart staff later found the baby and tried to save the child, but sadly, the baby was pronounced dead at the hospital
It all started on the evening of Monday, July, 17, 2025, when employees at the Walmart on East General Cavazos Boulevard made a grim find: a newborn baby girl abandoned in a restroom trash can.
Surveillance footage showed a young woman entering the bathroom and staying for nearly 40 minutes before leaving.
About 30 minutes later, employees discovered the infant and immediately called 911 at 10:22 p.m., as reported by Independent News.
"Employees performed CPR, but sadly, the baby was pronounced dead at Christus Spohn Hospital–Kleberg," said a Kingsville Police Department spokesperson.
Police quickly identified the young woman as Martinez’s 17-year-old daughter.
A Kleberg County Sheriff’s deputy later located her in the Walmart parking lot shortly after 10:53 p.m., and she was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Her father, Jerry Lee Martinez, 45, of Mathis, Texas, was arrested at the scene.
He now faces charges of abandoning/endangering a child with criminal negligence.
But investigators believe there’s more to the story so they decided to dig deeper.
They eventually found out that her father was the one who got her pregnant, and he had been abusing her for many years.
The teen told detectives that Martinez had been "touching her inappropriately" since she was 15.
She also told police Martinez punched her in the stomach after learning of her pregnancy and later took her to Mexico to abort the pregnancy.
However, his plan failed after she had a miscarriage at a Walmart restroom, as reported by Mirror News US
"This case is deeply disturbing, and we’re working to uncover the full truth, a Kingsville PD detective stated.
Martinez has now been charged with sexual assault of a child, alongside his previous charges, and he remains in Kleberg County Jail on a $1, 300,000 bond.
Meanwhile, his daughter remains hospitalized, and authorities plan to interview her once she’s medically cleared.
This tragic case raises difficult questions about child safety, abuse, and the desperate circumstances that may have led to this heartbreaking outcome.
As the investigation continues, the Kingsville community is left grappling with the shock of this incident.
