Daniel Roush: Former Roommate Accused of Killing Las Vegas Woman and Hiding Her Body in Freezer Will Not Face Death Penalty

A Las Vegas man accused of killing his former roommate and hiding her body inside a freezer will not face the death penalty if convicted, prosecutors confirmed in court.

Daniel Roush, who also goes by the name Jazzlynn Roush, is currently charged in connection with the death of 68-year-old Monique Gilbertson.

On November 6, 2024, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police arrested Daniel Roush after a welfare check at Gilbertson’s home. 

Gilbertson’s family were worried about her whereabout so they involved the police.

When the Officers entered the home they met Roush and another person, but neither could explain where Gilbertson was.

After searching the house, officers found Gilbertson’s body “folded up” inside a freezer, as seen in the bodycam footage below. 

This chilling discovery led to the current charges he is facing, and according to court documents, her body appeared to have been frozen for some time.

 

According to police reports, Gilbertson met Roush in September 2024 at a Home Depot store, and after sometime, she offered him a place to stay in exchange for help around the house.

However, the living arrangement quickly went wrong, as Gilbertson became unhappy with Roush due to cleanliness issues and suspected theft inside the home.

By October, Gilbertson had kicked Roush out of the house and changed the locks, police said.

Investigators also believe Gilbertson died on October 22, 2024, which was around the same time she kicked him out, based on evidence collected. 

In January 2025, a Clark County grand jury indicted Roush on murder and other serious charges, including abuse of an elderly person and multiple drug-related offenses.

Prosecutors allege that Gilbertson died after Roush forcefed her extremely large amount of fentanyl. 

At the time of her death, investigators said she had 400 nanograms of fentanyl per millimeter in her system, which is about 200 times the amount considered lethal.

During a court hearing held later in 2025, prosecutors announced that a death review committee had decided Roush should not face the death penalty. 

Roush’s wife, Gina Lopez, is also facing serious charges connected to the case, and both have entered not guilty pleas. 

Clark County Deputy District Attorney James Puccinelli told the court that Roush deliberately committed the crime because he had plans to take over her home and life.

Roush remains charged with murder, abuse of an elderly person, and several drug-related offenses, including administering drugs during the commission of a felony.
