Carlee Russell Faces Up To 2 Years in Jail For Faking Her Own Kidnap

Carlee Russell had a big grin on her face in her mugshot today after the police arrested her for pretending she was kidnapped.  She is facing two misdemeanor charges for filing a false report.

If she's found guilty, she could spend up to two years in jail and pay $12,000 in fines.

However, she was let out of jail for now by posting a $2,000 bond.

Later, she called her brother's girlfriend and told the same story while screaming over the phone.

Then, Carlee disappeared for two days and reappeared at her parents' house with a cut lip.

She lied about being kidnapped by a man with orange hair, who kept her captive for two days until she managed to escape.

The police found something suspicious in Carlee's Google search history.

She looked up things like "do you have to pay for an Amber alert" and did research on the movie Taken.

When confronted, Carlee's lawyer admitted that she made up the entire story.

Now, Carlee is facing criminal charges, and people are puzzled about why she lied.

Some say she did it to get her boyfriend's attention back after they broke up, but he distanced himself from her as her story fell apart.

There's also a question about whether Carlee will have to pay back the $100,000 that was spent on searching for her.

Her parents have not commented on her arrest, and Carlee has yet to explain her lies.

Her attorney released a statement on her behalf, apologizing to the community, volunteers, police, friends, and family for her actions.

Carlee admits that she made a mistake and asks for forgiveness and prayers as she addresses her issues and tries to move forward.
