In a tragic incident on the M7, Durban Metro Police officer, Errol Ogle, lost his life when he unknowingly encountered hijackers.

On that fateful Thursday morning, Officer Ogle noticed a truck driving contraflow to traffic on the Durban-bound Hans Dettman.

Acting diligently, he instructed the truck driver to stop, unaware of the danger lurking.

Unknown to Officer Ogle, a truck-jacking was unfolding, orchestrated by four suspects driving a silver VW Polo.

In a shocking turn of events, the hijackers shot and killed the brave police officer before making off with his vehicle, firearm, and fleeing the scene.

Despite the immediate response from ALS Paramedics, who arrived just after 7 am, Officer Ogle succumbed to a single bullet wound to the chest.

The police vehicle was later recovered in Stapleton Road, Pinetown, but the perpetrators remain at large.

Police are relentlessly pursuing the suspects to bring them to justice.

As the community mourns the loss of a dedicated officer, Durban Metro police spokesperson Boysie Zungu expressed their condolences to Officer Ogle's family, refraining from further comments until a meeting with the bereaved family.

The tragic event has shaken the law enforcement community, reminding us of the dangers officers face daily while protecting others.
