Less Than 1 Year After Marriage, Mexican Man A.K.A 'Cannibal of Puebla', Kills His Wife, Eats Her Brain And Uses Her Skull As An Ash Tray

A man referred to as the 'Cannibal of Puebla', who is believed to be a 'devil worshipper', has been apprehended in Mexico after allegedly killing his wife, consuming her brain in tacos, and using her skull as an ashtray.

The suspect, known only as Alvaro, was captured at the couple's residence in Puebla on July 2 and taken into custody.

Law enforcement authorities claim that the 32-year-old murdered his wife, Maria Montserrat Animas Montiel, a mother of five, on June 29 while under the influence of a prohibited substance.

Maria Montserrat Animas Montiel (The Victim)

During interrogation, Alvaro purportedly informed officers that he was compelled to commit the crime by Santa Muerte (Our Lady of Holy Death) and the devil.

After the killing, Alvaro allegedly dismembered the victim's body and placed the remains in plastic bags. Some of the bags were reportedly discarded in a ravine behind their home, while the rest were kept within the property.

According to sources close to the investigation, Alvaro confessed to consuming a portion of his wife's brain in tacos and utilizing a fragment of her shattered skull as an ashtray.

Two days after the incident, he allegedly contacted one of his stepdaughters to confess his gruesome act.

The Couple before the gruesome murder

Maria Alicia Montiel Serran, the victim's mother, stated in an interview, "He told one of her daughters to come and collect her mum because 'I already killed her and put her in bags'."

Maria Alicia further revealed that Alvaro had dismembered the 38-year-old victim's body using a machete, chisel, and hammer, adding, "I called him crying, asking why he did that to her if she wasn't a bad person."

The suspect purportedly confessed, "I killed her, I cut her into pieces, and I threw her into the ravine in bags," while asserting that she did not suffer.

Maria Montserrat married Alvaro less than a year ago and had five daughters, aged 12 to 23.

The youngest two resided with the couple and, according to their grandmother, were subjected to violence and sexual harassment from Alvaro.

The Suspect At Work

Family members claim that Alvaro, who works as a builder, struggled with substance abuse and frequently exhibited violent behavior towards his wife.

The couple frequently shared posts on social media about their devotion to Santa Muerte, and the police reportedly discovered a black magic altar in their home.

The victim's family has not been able to lay Maria Montserrat to rest as the police are still searching for some of her remains, which also need to undergo DNA testing.

Maria Alicia demanded justice, saying, "Give her to me so that I can bury her and give her a proper send-off.

That's what I want, and don't let him go free because I believe no mother would want her daughter to be sent to her in pieces."

The Puebla Prosecutor's Office is currently investigating the case.
