In connection with a quadruple shooting outside a nightclub in Daytona Beach, police have arrested a 29-year-old woman, Karla Bermudez.
She is facing four counts of attempted murder following an incident on Saturday night near Seabreeze Blvd. and Atlantic Avenue (A1A).
The police responded to the scene around 11:49 p.m. on Saturday after a fight broke out among a group of people in the nightclub's parking lot.
During the altercation, an unidentified woman started firing shots, injuring four people.
Fortunately, all the victims are expected to recover.
Daytona Beach Police had been on the lookout for a person of interest related to the shooting, and earlier on Monday, someone had been detained.
Later, they confirmed the arrest of Karla Bermudez.
As of now, specific details about the motive behind the shooting and how Bermudez is connected to the incident remain undisclosed.
The Daytona Beach Police plan to hold a press conference on Tuesday to provide more information about their ongoing investigation.
FOX 35 News interviewed a witness, Caitlyn, who was present in the parking lot during the fight and shooting.
She described a chaotic scene with several people involved in physical altercations before the gunshots rang out.
Residents living nearby expressed concerns about safety around Seabreeze Boulevard, but they have hope for improvement with the opening of a new Daytona Beach police substation by September 1.
The substation will be situated close to the location of the shooting, adjacent to the Sunoco gas station.
Business owners in the area, like Bill Brown, welcome the increased police presence as a positive step towards ensuring safety in the neighborhood.
