Kenyan detectives have taken into custody two women suspected of overdosing a man with a "substance", leading to his tragic death in Kisii County, Kenya.
Suspected to be part of the 'Mchele Babes,' Kajuju Samuel and Carolyne Kawira, both 30, were apprehended after an intense cat-and-mouse chase at their hideout in Nairobi’s Kasarani area.
The 'Mchele Babes' are a gang of women known for targeting men at drinking joints, spiking their drinks, and robbing them of their belongings.
According to a statement released by authorities on Thursday, August 3, 2023, the deceased, Francis Kariuki, met the suspected 'pishori babes' at a popular entertainment spot in Kisii town on July 23.
The venue featured a performance by a well-known mugithi maestro.
Tragically, Francis was found unconscious in his house on July 23, 2023, after the duo allegedly drugged him and stole his belongings.
Witnesses recounted that the trio had consumed rounds of drinks while enjoying the infectious tunes of the performing artist.
As the night progressed, the victim got drunk as a result of multiple drinks, and he accompanied the two women to his home in Nyanchwa estate, where he resided.
This marked the last time anyone saw him alive.
Among the items recovered from the suspects were electronic gadgets belonging to the deceased, including a laptop, mobile phone, and a flash disk.
The suspects, Kajuju Samuel and Carolyne Kawira, appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate, Christine Ogweno, on Wednesday, August 2, and were remanded for 14 days to facilitate a comprehensive investigation, including toxicology tests.
Presently, the suspects are detained at Nyanchwa police station, while the body of the deceased is being held at Hema Hospital morgue in Kisii.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be revealed in due course.
