Court Sentences Man To Death For Killing His Neighbour For Money Rituals, just few days to his wedding Kwara

In Kwara State, Nigeria, a man named Mohammed Kazeem Beiwa was sentenced to death for the horrifying murder of his neighbor, Olokose Ojo Olushola, just days before Olushola's wedding in Ilorin.

Olushola, a staff member at the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) unit of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, was kidnapped and killed by Mohammed and his gang for ritual purposes in 2021.

The court also handed 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of N100,000 each to two other accomplices, Madu Jeremiah and Mohammed Chatta.

However, the fourth defendant, Jimoh Abdulateef, was set free due to a lack of diligent prosecution.

The four accused individuals faced eight charges, including criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, culpable homicide, illegal possession of firearms, and illegal removal of human parts.

The suspects

According to the prosecution, the accused attacked and kidnapped Olushola at his house a few days before his wedding, then killed him sometime in 2021.

They even demanded ransom from his family after dismembering him, falsely leading them to believe he was still alive and held hostage.

After a thorough trial, Justice S. M. Akanbi found three of the accused guilty on four of the criminal charges, and they received varying sentences, including the death penalty for Mohammed Kazeem Beiwa.

Olushola  Olokose, Oyo (The Victim)

In March 2021, Olushola, who was preparing for his wedding in Akure, Ondo State, gave N350,000 to Mohammed to buy three cows as discussed.  Mohammed deceived him by claiming that cows were cheaper in his area.

On the fateful day, while they were on their way to purchase the cows, other gang members attacked Olushola in the bush, robbing him of his belongings, including the money he planned to use for the wedding.

Tragically, despite his family's efforts to pay the ransom, the gang took a significant amount from Olushola's account, including his March 2021 salary, and then killed him.

The court's verdict brings some semblance of justice to this heinous crime, but the pain of losing a young life just before a wedding remains immeasurable.
