Trust Betrayed: Woman Arrested for Allegedly Abducting Friend's Baby

A 28-year-old woman named Adaeze Lawrence is currently in custody of the Abia State Police Command for allegedly stealing a one-month-old baby boy from her friend.

According to reports, Lawrence gained the trust of the baby's mother, Onyinyechi Owujie, and developed a friendship with her before committing the crime.

Lawrence, a hair stylist, met Owujie through her elder sister, who was a schoolmate of Lawrence. Taking advantage of their friendship, Lawrence managed to gain access to Owujie and her baby.

The incident came to light when the baby's mother realized her child was missing and reported the case to the police.

Lawrence was subsequently tracked down and arrested in her hiding place.

The Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Chioma Chinaka, released a statement confirming the arrest and provided more details of the case.

On August 14, 2023, the Abia State Police Special Weapons and Tactics Team apprehended Adaeze Lawrence after receiving credible information about her whereabouts.

She was found with the stolen one-month-old baby boy. During interrogation, Lawrence confessed to abducting the child from Onyinyechi Owujie's residence.

It was revealed that Lawrence and Owujie's elder sister were schoolmates, which allowed Lawrence to exploit the relationship and gain the mother's trust.

Under the guise of celebrating the new baby's birth, Lawrence took advantage of a celebration outing to abscond with the baby.

Initially, Lawrence denied the crime, claiming the child was hers.

However, after medical examinations disproved her claims and confirmed she was not the biological mother, she confessed to the abduction.

The child's biological mother positively identified the baby, confirming the abduction on August 6, 2023.

ASP Chioma Chinaka emphasized that an ongoing investigation is in progress for this case.

She also issued a warning to the public, advising parents to be vigilant and protective of their children, especially in public places and when strangers take an unusual interest in their kids.
