15-Year-Old Arrested in Orlando Drive-By Shooting that Claimed Two Lives, Including a 6-year-old Girl
In Orlando, Florida, a 15-year-old is now facing murder charges in connection with a tragic drive-by shooting that claimed the life of a 6-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man while injuring her mother. This devastating incident unfolded on the evening of August 29 on the west side of the city, as reported by the Orlando police.
Nico Brown, the 15-year-old suspect (pictured above), was apprehended and arrested on charges of first-degree homicide.
The heart-wrenching incident transpired just before 8:30 p.m. on August 29, when multiple shots were fired from a moving vehicle. Tragically, these bullets pierced through the walls of a home, striking the innocent 6-year-old, Ajahliyah Hashim, and her mother.
Ajahliyah was rushed to the hospital but, devastatingly, was pronounced dead. Her mother sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
It's important to note that they were not the intended targets of the shooting, according to the police.
Additionally, a 19-year-old man named Isaiyah Wright, who was caught in the crossfire, was taken to a different hospital and sadly did not survive.
Ajahliyah Hashim was a student at Eagle's Nest Elementary School, situated approximately 2 miles from the location of the tragic shooting.
Maria F. Vazquez, the Superintendent of Orange County Public Schools, expressed her condolences, highlighting the tragic loss of a young student to gun violence in their community. She emphasized the need for safer neighborhoods and the pain Ajahliyah's family must be enduring.
Local residents interviewed by ABC affiliate WFTV revealed that shootings had been an ongoing problem in the neighborhood, with reports of multiple incidents damaging homes. This cycle of violence had left the community deeply concerned and fearful.
The investigation into this heartbreaking incident is ongoing, as authorities work to bring justice to the victims and their families.
