Armed Man Carjacks Vehicle With Kids Onboard: Illinois Case Ends in Sentencing

In Illinois, a man named Kewan Tillman, who is 20 years old, received a 10-year sentence in federal prison on Wednesday for a carjacking incident. He had previously admitted to federal carjacking and firearm charges.

On July 27, 2022, in Posen, Illinois, Tillman approached a woman who was about to get into her Kia Optima at a Thorntons gas station. Shockingly, her two young children were in the car with her. Armed with a pistol, Tillman pointed it at the mother and demanded her car keys.

Prosecutors in Illinois stated that Tillman approached the woman while carrying a loaded handgun. After the terrified mother handed over her keys, she managed to quickly rescue her two children from the back of her car.

Tillman then sped away but lost control of the stolen vehicle. He abandoned it and made a run back towards the gas station, where he tried unsuccessfully to break into a semi-truck that was already occupied.

In a desperate attempt, Tillman threw the handgun into a sewer and then tried to force his way into another vehicle parked at a gas pump. A scuffle ensued between Tillman and the vehicle's driver until deputies from the Posen Police Department arrived and arrested him.

Upon a closer look, law enforcement discovered that the discarded handgun had a "Glock switch," also known as an "auto sear." This modification allowed Tillman's gun to fire in fully automatic mode at the time it was found.

It's worth noting that Tillman had initially arrived at the gas station in a stolen Kia Soul that had been reported as stolen in Chicago.

In  another development in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a man named Clayton Garcia, aged 25, allegedly killed his father, Jorge Garcia, who was in his seventies. See detailed story here
