During proactive patrols in Camden, officers apprehended a man suspected of committing a series of sexual attacks on women.
The 27-year-old, Abid Khanzada, drew their attention because he was wearing clothing similar to the description provided by victims and seen on CCTV footage. Khanzada has been convicted and sentenced for these offenses, which occurred in the Euston area between January 15 and February 21.
Detectives worked tirelessly to capture the perpetrator behind these attacks on lone women, most of whom were approached late at night on quiet streets.
In one incident, he pushed a victim to the ground before sexually assaulting her. On another occasion, he pinned a victim to her front door and sexually assaulted her, fleeing only when confronted by a member of the public.
Khanzada sexually assaulted a total of five women, primarily in their early 20s.
Officers from the Central North Public Protection team meticulously reviewed CCTV footage, collected statements, and conducted forensic work in their efforts to identify the suspect.
In the early hours of February 25, officers from the Public Protection Predatory Offender Unit on patrol spotted a man matching the description provided by victims – wearing black trousers, a blue jacket, and distinctive white trainers.
They promptly arrested him, and he was taken into custody. Key CCTV footage and evidence already obtained led to Khanzada being charged with three offenses. Subsequently, he was charged with two more incidents.
Thanks to the diligent work of the officers, Khanzada faced charges of four counts of sexual assault and one of digital penetration.
DCI Steve Tod, leading the investigation, commended the bravery of the victims and emphasized the commitment to ensuring women's safety in London.
Khanzada (born on October 9, 1995), of Stanhope Street, Camden, pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual assault on June 5 at Wood Green Crown Court. On July 19 at the same court, he pleaded guilty to sexual assault by penetration ahead of trial.
On September 13, he was sentenced to three years in prison.
