In a tragic incident at the Federal University of Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), a 100-level student named Atanda Modupe Deborah (pictured above), was discovered deceased just two days after she mysteriously disappeared.
Reports indicate that Modupe, a student in the Nursing Department, stream A, Faculty of Basic Medical Science, went missing on the night of Monday, September 4, 2023, while she was studying in her class.
Her absence raised alarm among her roommates when she failed to return from her late-night study session.
On Wednesday, September 6, a grim discovery was made as Modupe's lifeless body was found buried in a shallow grave behind her faculty building.
Shockingly, her eyes had been cruelly removed.
In response to this horrifying incident, the University's Registrar, Mufutau Ibrahim, issued a statement on Wednesday evening, instructing all students to evacuate the campuses immediately.
The university administration also revealed that they had swiftly deployed armed security personnel for patrol, surveillance, and heightened security measures. Additionally, multiple arrests have been made in connection with the case.
The official statement from the University Management reads, "The University Management has received a report on the case of Ms. Modupe Deborah Atanda, who was reported missing as of Wednesday, 6th September 2023; and Management is saddened at the current turn of events."
"It is crucial to promptly inform the entire University community that immediate actions have been taken, with National Security Personnel taking charge of the situation. Indeed, several suspects have already been apprehended."
"To this end, all students (Stream A and any other full-time student still on any of the University’s campuses) are hereby directed to vacate the premises with immediate effect to ensure a thorough and unhindered investigation."
"It is important to note that armed security personnel have been rapidly deployed for enhanced patrolling, surveillance, and security measures."
"Rest assured that the University is committed to identifying and bringing all responsible individuals to justice, and they will face the full consequences of their actions."
"A new resumption date for all students will be communicated accordingly, and we sincerely apologize for any inconveniences this situation may have caused. Thank you."
