Shocking Turn of Events: Attorney Donald Kyle Deskins Accused of Wife's Murder and Tampering with Evidence

A Kentucky attorney and former prosecutor has been indicted on charges of murdering his wife and tampering with evidence over two years after her tragic death due to blunt force trauma at their residence.

As per the indictment dated August 30, Donald Kyle Deskins, aged 54, previously an assistant Pike County attorney and presently serving as the City Attorney in Elkhorn City, is accused of causing the death of 46-year-old Judith Dawn Deskins in April 2021.

The indictment alleges that he did so with the intention to cause her death or under circumstances displaying extreme indifference to human life, engaging in conduct that posed a grave risk of death.

Furthermore, it accuses him of tampering with evidence both immediately after the murder and in the subsequent months, including evidence on his laptop.

Judith Dawn Deskins tragically passed away on April 24, 2021, which is also a date in the indictment for evidence tampering against Donald Kyle Deskins.

Another evidence tampering offense is alleged to have occurred on July 28, 2021, when Deskins is believed to have manipulated evidence on a laptop before surrendering it to the authorities.

Notably, July 28, 2021, falls just a day after Deskins updated his Facebook status, announcing his involvement in a new relationship.

This public revelation garnered congratulations and well-wishes from many who were seemingly pleased to see him moving on so swiftly, a mere three months after his wife's sudden demise. However, his Facebook profile now states his single status.

Previously, Deskins had faced professional discipline for errors and omissions in his legal representation, as documented in a 2014 Kentucky Supreme Court opinion and order.

In that case, he attempted to justify his misconduct by citing mental health issues and "family problems."

While indicted in Pike County, Deskins won't be prosecuted by the Pike County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office due to the clear conflict of interest arising from his previous role as an assistant prosecutor there.

Consequently, Johnson County Commonwealth's Attorney Floyd "Tony" Skeans has been appointed as the special prosecutor for the case.

Skeans, while not divulging specifics about the evidence, mentioned the complexity of the case, stating that finding an expert capable of interpreting the physical evidence took a considerable amount of time. He got involved in late 2021, and the process of securing an expert extended into most of 2022.

According to records from the Pike County Detention Center, Deskins, now a defendant, faces charges of murder committed during a domestic violence incident and tampering with physical evidence.

He remains incarcerated without bond since his booking on August 31.
