Spanish actor Gabriel Guevara, known for his role in the Spanish Amazon Prime teen film series "My Fault," has been apprehended during the Venice Film Festival on charges of alleged sexual assault, as confirmed by the festival.
It's worth noting that his presence on the Lido had no connection to the festival itself.
Guevara, aged 22, had arrived on the Lido and shared this on his Instagram posts. He was slated to receive an award called the Filming Italy prize at the festival but for the award was not part of the festival.
An international warrant had been issued for his arrest in relation to an alleged sexual assault case in France. The arrest occurred on the Lido and was initially reported by Venice's La Nuova Venezia newspaper.
Representatives for Guevara have not responded to requests for comment.
Guevara's case will now be considered by the Venice court of appeals before any extradition can take place. He is presently in protective custody, and the exact charges against him remain undisclosed.
The Venice Film Festival released a statement on Sunday to clarify the situation: "Following the news articles which have been emerging on various websites, regarding the Spanish actor Gabriel Guevara being arrested in Venice, the Biennale hereby clarifies that his presence in Venice was not linked to any events or productions related to the 80th Venice International Film Festival."
Gabriel Guevara, with a substantial following on social media, initially appeared in the Spanish adaptation of the Nordic teen series "Skam" and subsequently featured in the Paramount+ series "Bosé."
However, he gained widespread recognition through Amazon's "My Fault." His other notable credits include Spanish series like "How to Screw it All Up" (2022) and "You're Nothing Special."
In another news a man has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a teenager in Enfield. See detailed story here.
