Brotherly Feud Turns Deadly: Houston Police Seek Stabbing Suspect

In Houston, Texas, police are on the lookout for a 29-year-old man who is accused of fatally stabbing his brother in the neck with a foot-long curved sword that's been described as a "pirate sword" by Houston police Lt. Larry Crowson.

The incident unfolded when officers responded to a stabbing report in the southeast part of the city around 4 p.m. last Thursday. At the scene, they found Robert Payne Stewart, who had suffered a stab wound. He was rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries about 40 minutes later.

According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, witnesses promptly identified the suspect as Stewart's brother, Cory Madison Kellett. Stewart's roommate recounted that he was awakened by Stewart in a panic, saying that his brother was outside.

Stewart told his roommate, "My brother is outside, and he is not playing," as per the affidavit. When the roommate went outside, he saw Kellett in conversation with a neighbor. Stewart confronted his brother, questioning him about carrying a knife into their neighborhood.

Kellett responded by pulling a large knife from a holster and pointing it at Stewart, according to the affidavit. He began advancing toward the roommate while brandishing the knife in the air, causing the roommate to flee to the safety of their home in fear.

A neighbor reported hearing a confrontation and Stewart telling his brother, "Yeah, I popped your a**. Try something with my friend." Stewart also made it clear that he wouldn't allow Kellett to enter his home. Stewart rushed toward the house to prevent his brother from gaining entry, at which point Kellett allegedly slashed his neck.

Stewart cried out, "He stabbed me! He stabbed me!" as blood streamed from his neck, as recounted by the roommate to detectives. Kellett subsequently fled the scene in his Alfa Romeo sports car.

A neighbor later informed detectives that Kellett claimed he was there to check the mail but had been kicked out of the house, rendering him homeless. The neighbor also revealed that Stewart had previously informed him that Kellett had stabbed him about a month earlier, leading to his eviction from the residence.

Further evidence emerged when Kellett's ex-girlfriend forwarded a Facebook post dated August 7, featuring pictures of his car and the same knife, captioned with "New bday swords," according to the affidavit.

Detectives secured an arrest warrant for Kellett on charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Authorities are urging anyone with information about Kellett's whereabouts to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or provide anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
