California Male Nanny, Matthew Antonio Zakrzewski, Convicted of 34 Felonies in Child Molestation Case

A male nanny from Costa Mesa, California, is looking at a potential maximum sentence of 690 years to life in prison after being found guilty of molesting 16 boys, aged between two and twelve, and exposing a seventeenth boy to pornography.

Matthew Antonio Zakrzewski, 34, faced a jury and was convicted of 34 felonies related to sexual assault against 16 children under his care. Additionally, he showed explicit material to one other child with the intent of sexual assault, and he even recorded several of these abusive acts.

Zakrzewski's arrest took place on May 17, 2019, at a local airport by detectives from the Laguna Beach Police Department after he arrived on an international flight. Initially, he was charged with three felony counts of inappropriate acts with a minor under 14, along with one felony count of oral copulation with a child under 10. He also faced a felony count of child pornography possession.

Following these charges, investigators sought assistance from the public to identify any additional victims who had been under the care of this nanny, known for his services across Southern California. As the investigation progressed, more victims came forward, supported by video evidence and tips from concerned individuals. These revelations led to further charges being brought against Zakrzewski.

The case against Zakrzewski began when a Laguna Beach couple reported that he had touched their eight-year-old child inappropriately. Concerned about their child's safety and potential risks to others, they initiated the investigation. This subsequently led to the identification of a second victim, a seven-year-old, in Los Angeles. Further investigations uncovered ten more boys across Southern California who were victims of Zakrzewski's actions.

Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer expressed his admiration for the young victims and their families who bravely testified against the abuser. He emphasized the importance of their courage in ensuring the voices of sexual assault victims are heard while safeguarding other children from such victimization.

Zakrzewski presented himself as "the original Sitter Buddy" on his website, offering various babysitting services, including mentorships, big brother relationships, overnight, and holiday childcare.

After an exhaustive investigation, Zakrzewski faced a total of 34 felony charges, including lewd and lascivious acts with a minor under 14, oral copulation with a child under 10, possession of child pornography, using a minor for sex acts, distributing pornography to a minor for sexual purposes, and an attempted lewd or lascivious act with a minor under 14.

A jury found Zakrzewski guilty of all 34 felonies, covering offenses committed between January 1, 2014, and May 17, 2019. His sentencing is scheduled for November 17, 2023, and he faces a potential sentence of 690 years to life, in addition to eight years.

In another development, a man from New Jersey is facing terrorism charges after intentionally crashing his vehicle into a police station while playing Guns N' Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle," according to the district attorney’s office. See detailed story here
