North Carolina Model and Ex-FBI Agent Father Enter Pleas in High-Profile Murder Case of Jason Corbett

In the case involving a North Carolina model and her former FBI agent father, recent developments have seen both parties entering pleas in the 2015 beating death of her husband, an Irish businessman, with claims of self-defense during the fatal encounter.

Molly Corbett, the accused model, pleaded no contest, while her father Thomas Martens pleaded guilty to the killing, with both defendants citing self-defense and expressing fear for their lives during an alleged struggle with the deceased husband, Jason Corbett.

The tragic incident, which occurred in the couple's Davidson County home, resulted in Jason Corbett sustaining severe injuries, including a fractured skull and multiple contusions on his arms, legs, and torso, leading to his death from blunt force trauma.

Initially convicted of second-degree murder in 2017 and sentenced to 20 to 25 years in prison, the North Carolina Supreme Court later overturned the convictions and ordered a new trial in 2021, emphasizing statements made by the Corbett's children in a medical evaluation alleging domestic abuse by their father.

The ongoing sentencing trial for Corbett and Martens involves the presentation of evidence from local law enforcement witnesses and the state's crime lab, including a 911 call made by Martens on the night of the incident.

Defense attorneys for both parties have cited a history of domestic violence and emotional distress as factors in the case, urging the jury to consider these circumstances.
