Wheeler, who played as an offensive lineman, was accused of domestic violence charges and subsequently released by the Seahawks.
The court found him guilty of first and second-degree assault, resulting in serious injuries for the victim, including a fractured bone and a dislocated joint.

He also allegedly strangled her twice during the attack, causing her to lose consciousness. While Wheeler claimed he was experiencing a mental health episode at the time, the court did not accept his explanation.
As part of his sentence, Wheeler will serve 81 months in prison and undergo a mandatory mental health evaluation.
He will also be subject to supervised release for three years upon his release from prison. This case serves as a stark reminder that violence is unacceptable, regardless of profession or any other factor. Wheeler's promising football career has come to a sudden end due to his actions.
