Justice Served: Wade Wilson Found Guilty in Shocking 2019 Double Homicide After Killing Two Random people For "Killing Sake"
A Florida man has been found guilty of two counts of murder after he strangled two women to death within a space of few hours in 2019.
Back in October 2019, the lifeless bodies of Kristine Melton, 35, and Diane Ruiz, 43, were discovered.
Reports from WFLA and Fox 4 reveal that Melton was found in her home, while Ruiz, a mother of two, was found in an empty lot.
Wade Wilson was apprehended in connection with these murders that same month, as reported by the media.
His conviction, announced by WFLA, Fox 4, and WBBH, brings to a close nearly five years of legal proceedings.
Cape Coral Police Chief Anthony Sizemore released a statement on June 12, saying, “This afternoon in the Lee County Courthouse, I sat with the families of Diane Ruiz and Kristine Melton as the verdict was read: Wade Wilson was found guilty on all counts. The families expressed to me their gratitude for the hard work of our team.”
During the trial, a prosecutor argued that Wilson killed the two women simply for the thrill of it.
Assistant State Attorney Andreas Gardiner, during his closing arguments, said, "This case was about killing for the sake of killing. Strangulation is the epitome of life slipping through someone’s hands."
Fox 4 also reported on a jailhouse interview in which Wilson allegedly confessed to detectives, saying, “I would do it again.”
According to the outlet, Wilson met Melton at a bar and went home with her.
The next day, he strangled her.
Just hours later, he encountered Ruiz walking home from work, asked her for directions, and when she got into his car, he strangled her and then ran her over.
Wilson’s attorney did not contest his guilt, as noted by WBBH.
Instead, she argued that he was under the influence of drugs and that the murders were not premeditated.
Attorney Lee Hollander told the court, "I’m not arguing insanity, I’m arguing the state is claiming premeditation, I’m arguing he’s whacked out of his mind for any of this."
With his conviction on first-degree murder charges, Wilson now faces the possibility of the death penalty.
The sentencing phase of the trial is set to begin on June 20, as reported by WFLA.
