A teacher named Rebecca Joynes has been sentenced to prison after sexually abusing two teenage boys.
One of the boys eventually got her pregnant.
The 30-year-old groomed the boys, who were just 15 years old, through social media.
Manchester Crown Court heard how Joynes, who was convicted of multiple counts of sexual activity with a child, manipulated and abused the teenagers.
In a tearful appearance, Joynes was sentenced to six-and-a-half years behind bars.
The court was told that Joynes, then 28, had just ended a long-term relationship and felt flattered by the attention from the young boys.
Throughout the trial, the victims were referred to as Boy A and Boy B to protect their identities.
Joynes gave birth to Boy B's child in early 2024, only to have the baby taken from her within 24 hours.
Boy B shared in a victim impact statement that the hardest part was being kept in the dark about the baby's fate.
He struggled to accept the reality of his abuse, initially feeling guilty for giving evidence but later understanding the extent of Joynes' manipulation.
He said he felt forced, controlled, and abused, and that he would always be connected to Joynes because of their child.
During the trial, Judge Kate Cornell scolded Joynes, saying that as the adult, she should have set proper boundaries.
Instead, she encouraged inappropriate behavior, even turning a math exercise into a grooming opportunity by giving Boy A all but one digit of her phone number.
They connected on Snapchat, leading to secret meetings where Joynes continued her predatory behavior.
Boy A lied to his mother, saying he was staying at a friend’s house, but actually went with Joynes to a shopping center.
There, she bought him an expensive Gucci belt.
CCTV footage showed her acting flirtatiously, which the judge said was clear grooming.
After taking Boy A to her flat, Joynes had sex with him twice.
The next day, Boy A's mother saw a mark on his neck from a love bite. This led to a confrontation at school and the police got involved.
Despite being ordered not to have unsupervised contact with minors while on bail, Joynes continued to engage in predatory behavior with one of the boys.
She moved back to her parents' house but reconnected with Boy B through Snapchat.
They had sex without using protection after Joynes told him that she couldn't get pregnant.
But it was a lie.
She was put back in jail without bail for five months.
Then, in November, she was granted bail again.
Inpact On Victims
Boy B's statement highlighted the severe mental toll on him and his family.
Social services told him that Joynes didn't want to know how the baby was doing, which made him very sad.
He was also sad and worried that he might never get to see his child.
Judge Cornell noted that Joynes, a once high achiever, had destroyed her career and lost her baby due to her actions.
Despite the serious offenses, Joynes showed no real remorse, continuing to deny the impact on her victims.
