A Troubled Relationship Leads to Tragedy

Nicola Priest was only 22 years old at the time of her daughter’s death.

She was also in a relationship with Callum Redfern who was 21.

Text messages exchanged between the couple showed a lot frustration towards young Kaylee-Jayde.

Priest and Redfern often complained about the child's actions.

Sometimes, these complaints turned into discussions of physical discipline.

This indicated a history of abuse within the home.

Priest and Redfern lived together in an apartment in Solihull, and their relationship appeared to be very unstable.

Neighbors reported hearing arguments and disturbing noises always coming from their flat.

The Night Everything Changed

Kaylee-Jayde was tragically killed on the night of August 9, 2020.

Police were called to the Solihull apartment after Nicola Priest reported her daughter unresponsive.

By the time officers arrived, it was too late – Kaylee-Jayde was already dead.

It was revealed that Kaylee-Jayde’s death was the result of a brutal and sustained assault.

Kaylee-Jayde had sustained multiple fractured ribs and severe internal injuries—wounds no 3-year-old should ever have to endure.

Reports have it that the assault happened because Kaylee-Jayde interrupted her mother and Redfern when they wanted to have sex.

Prosecutors explained that the toddler was awake that night, which angered the couple.

This led them to lash out in a fit of rage.

The Investigation: Texts and Testimonies Reveal a Dark Reality

As the investigation into Kaylee-Jayde’s death unfolded, disturbing details about her life with Nicola Priest and Redfern came to light.

Investigators found text messages between the couple discussing Kaylee-Jayde’s behavior.

One particular shocking message from Nicola Priest said, “I'm gonna kill her."

The message was sent just weeks before Kaylee-Jayde’s death.

Also, the innocent child was regularly punished for simple acts like dirtying her diaper.

Experts testified that the abuse was not a one-time event but had likely escalated over time.

Neighbors who lived below the couple’s apartment also testified during the trial.

They shared how they often heard loud noises followed by the sound of Kaylee-Jayde crying.

These testimonies, along with the text messages, painted a chilling picture of the torment the child faced in the days leading up to her death.

A Call for Justice: Is the Sentence Enough?

Nicola Priest and Callum Redfern were charged with manslaughter rather than murder when they went to trial.

Prosecutors could not directly link them to Kaylee-Jayde's killing due to lack of sufficient evidence.

As a result, Nicola Priest was sentenced to 15 years in prison, while Callum Redfern received 14 years.

Both denied full responsibility for the assault, and each pointed accusing fingers at the other.

However, the public was not satisfied with these sentences.

Many believe the punishment did not fit the crime, especially given the brutal nature of Kaylee-Jayde’s death.

An online petition calling for harsher sentences has garnered hundreds of signatures.

Additionally, videos demanding justice for Kaylee-Jayde have gone viral on platforms like TikTok.
