What Did He Do: A Timeline of Terror in The Euless Texas Murder Case
In September 2021, Jason Thornburg executed a series of murders under the guise of “human sacrifices.”
He operated from a motel room at the Mid City Inn in Euless, Texas, as reported by the police.
He claimed the lives of three individuals: David Lueras, 42; Maricruz Mathis, 33; and Lauren Phillips, 34.
Thornburg reportedly believed these individuals "needed to be sacrificed for religious reasons."
Over the course of seven harrowing days, he lured each victim separately into his motel room, where he carried out their murders.
He slit the throats of David Lueras and Maricruz Mathis.
He then strangled Lauren Phillips, and sexually assaulted her corpse.
In an act of incomprehensible brutality, Thornburg consumed part of Lueras’ heart.
He dismembered their bodies in the bathtub before storing the remains in trash bags under his bed.
Thornburg then transported the body parts in storage bins to a dumpster in Fort Worth.
Finally, he set the remains ablaze, attempting to cover his tracks.

The three victims of this Texas murder case came from different walks of life.
David Lueras was Thornburg’s roommate at the time, while Lauren Phillips and Maricruz Mathis knew him casually.
Sadly, they all became victims of his deranged belief system.
The Criminal Investigation into Jason Thornburg's Killings
The investigation began with the discovery of the dumpster fire.
Crime scene investigators found human remains in the fire which led to an investigation.
Surveillance footage showed Thornburg's Jeep Grand Cherokee near the crime scene, which led to his arrest.
During questioning, he confessed to the murders and revealed shocking details.
This included his ritualistic motives and attempts to cover up evidence by starting the fires.
At this point, detectives realised that Thornburg had meticulously planned his actions.
Criminal Investigators also tied Thornburg to a suspicious gas explosion in May 2021 that killed his then roommate Mark Jewell.
Evidence showed Jewell’s body bore signs of foul play and Jason later confessed to the murder.
Thornburg also confessed to the murder of his fomer girlfriend, Tanya Begay, who was last seen in Arizona in 2017.
Her case, still open with the FBI.
Jason Thornburg’s religious fanaticism played a significant role in his crimes.
In his confession, he claimed that God had called upon him to perform human sacrifices.

Legal Proceedings and Sentencing
Jason Thornburg’s trial revealed a disturbing image of a calculated killer.
Prosecutors presented a mountain of evidence, including Thornburg’s confessions and his calculated steps to avoid detection.
Tarrant County defense lawyers argued that Thornburg’s psychosis and delusional beliefs influenced his actions.
They urged the jury to consider life imprisonment instead of the death penalty.
However, the prosecution countered the defense’s claims by highlighting Thornburg's intentional actions to cover up his crimes.
The jury deliberated for less than five hours before sentencing Thornburg to death.
“You have been adjudged by a jury to be guilty of capital murder... Therefore, this court sentences you to death. This sentence shall be executed by intravenous injection of a lethal substance until you are dead,” said the Judge.
Jason Thornburg’s appeal process will take years if he decides to appeal the judgment of the Tarrant County Judge.
His crimes have left an indelible mark on the victims' families and the broader community.
While the legal proceedings brought closure to some, the journey to understanding and healing continues.
As Thornburg awaits execution, his case will remain a reference point for discussions on criminal justice and mental health.
