Morgan Alyson Creel: Georgia Mother Indicted for Second-Degree Murder After Infant’s Death from Hair Dryer Burns

A Georgia mother, Morgan Alyson Creel, 32, has been indicted for second-degree murder, as reported by Law&Crime.

This indictment is coming after her infant son was found unresponsive with severe burns.

Authorities say Creel was under the influence of drugs when she left a hair dryer blowing on the baby, ultimately leading to his death.

The case, which began in November 2023, has now resulted in formal charges from a grand jury in January 2025.

Let's get into it.

The Tragic Discovery

On November 9, 2023, the local police department in Coweta County responded to a distressing 911 call from Creel’s home.

Creel claimed she had fallen asleep while using a hair dryer to warm her infant son.

When she woke up, the child was unresponsive.

However, when deputies and paramedics arrived to provide immediate assistance, they discovered the baby had severe burns on his right side.

Despite CPR attempts, the infant was pronounced dead at the scene.

Indictment and Shocking Allegations

The investigation of the crime scene revealed troubling details.

While performing a protective sweep of the home, deputies reportedly found a marijuana smoking device on the back porch.

According to court documents, detectives believe Creel was under the influence of a controlled substance when she passed out.

Tragically, this led to the hair dryer being left on, causing "cruel and excessive physical and mental pain" to her infant.

In January 2025, a Coweta County grand jury returned an indictment against Creel for murder in the second degree and cruelty to children.

According to the Indictment, the temperature in Newnan, GA, was 68°F at 2 p.m., leading many to question Creel’s reasoning for using a hair dryer as a heating method.

Legal Troubles Continue: Creel Arrested for DUI

Nearly a year after her son's tragic death, Creel was arrested again in October 2024 —this time for driving under the influence.

According to police reports, a deputy pulled Creel over after she was seen weaving in and out of traffic.

In a body cam footage obtained by Fox5Atlanta News, she can be heard blaming her erratic driving on sneezing.

Deputies attempted to conduct a sobriety test, but for safety reasons, they stopped the test after Creel appeared too unsteady to complete it.

This incident only strengthened the prosecution’s argument that substance abuse played a significant role in the baby’s death.

Creel was booked into the Coweta County Jail on January 24, 2025, and it remains unclear if she has secured a defense attorney

Her case will now proceed through the courts, where prosecutors are expected to seek the highest possible punishment.
