Ewan Methven, a 27-year-old postman, has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for the brutal murder of his girlfriend, Phoenix Spencer-Horn.
The violent attack happened in November 2024, inside their flat in East Kilbride, Scotland.
After the murder, Ewan tried to cover up the horrific crime, but he was eventually caught and arrested.

On November 16, 2024, Phoenix, a 21-year-old waitress, was at home with Methven when a disagreement between them turned deadly.
Investigators later revealed that Methven had been upset and complained about feeling "lonely" because of her work shifts.
According to BBC News, Methven violently attacked Phoenix during the argument.
He used three knifes to stab her 20 times, and one of the stab wounds went deep into her chest, causing her death.
After that, he strangled her, cut off her head, and tried to dismember her body in a shocking attempt to hide what he had done.
Their downstairs neighbor later said they heard “loud noises and hurried footsteps” that night, which was around the time Phoenix was killed.

Instead of reporting the crime, Methven stayed in the flat with Phoenix’s body and acted like nothing had happened.
He drove Phoenix’s red car, went through her phone, and even texted her mother, Alison Spencer, claiming she was "alive and well."
He also made about 170 searches for internet pornography and tried to buy cocaine using her phone, while she was already dead.
It wasn’t until November 18—two days later—that Methven finally called 999 to report what had happened.
He claimed he had “blacked out” during a psychotic episode caused by drugs and alcohol, and that he couldn’t remember anything.
But a delivery driver who saw Methven that night said he didn’t look drunk or high at all.
When police got to the scene, they found Phoenix’s dismembered body in the hallway, covered up and lying near two blood-stained knives.
Methven, who was described as disturbingly “calm,” told the officers:
“I couldn’t stay here with her like that. I tried to dismember her.”

Methven was arrested on the spot after the horrifying discovery, and was later charged with Phoenix’s murder.
He eventually pleaded guilty to murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice,
as per BBC News.
In July 2025, he was sentenced to life in prison and must serve at least 23 years before he can apply for parole.
During the trial, Methven’s lawyer, Tony Graham, admitted that Phoenix’s loved ones would likely see him as the “personification of evil.”
"He recognizes the relatives and friends will never be able to forgive him. He will not be able to forgive himself," said Graham.
Judge Lord Matthews, who sentenced Methven, described the crime as “appalling and horrible,” and spoke about the outpourings of grief shared in the victim impact statements.
Phoenix’s family spoke of their deep loss, worsened by the fact that they were denied the chance to say goodbye properly due to Methven’s actions.
After Phoenix’s death, her family started a fundraiser that raised thousands of pounds, and most of the money was donated to Women’s Aid Glasgow.
The charity paid tribute to Phoenix, saying:
"Her name, Phoenix, now stands for more than loss. It stands for action. For change. For refusing to let her story end in silence."
Methven, who is now in prison, wrote a letter to the court during his sentencing, saying he was sorry for what he did.
"I know how loved Phoenix was... I cannot believe I have taken her from them," he wrote.
But for her family, no words can undo the pain.
As the judge rightly said, Methven not only took Phoenix’s life—he stole her dignity in death.
