A 39-year-old man, Domingo Vasquez Rodriguez, has been charged in connection with a violent robbery that later killed his 99-year-old former landlord, Jose Antonio Tur.
Rodriguez, who once lived in Tur’s Upper Manhattan building, was extradited back to New York City on Friday, October 31, 2025, to face multiple felony charges.
According to prosecutors, Rodriguez faces charges including robbery, two counts of assault, grand larceny, and six counts of burglary. A Manhattan judge ordered him held without bail following his arraignment.

Rodriguez had rented an apartment in Tur’s Washington Heights building for five years before moving to Philadelphia. But according to the victim’s grandson, Jose Miguel Tur, Rodriguez was far from an ideal tenant.
“He was a horrible tenant,” Tur told The New York Post. “He left the apartment an absolute disaster — covered with roaches, cabinets destroyed.”
Authorities said Rodriguez also owed the elderly landlord more than $30,000 in rent.
In August 2025, the 99-year-old even offered him $8,000 to vacate the apartment in hopes of ending the dispute peacefully, but Rodriguez had other plans.
On September 22, 2025, police say Rodriguez returned to the property in disguise and called the elderly man, pretending he had a package to deliver to one of the apartments.
According to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny, Rodriguez asked Tur to meet him on the side of the building, where he ambushed him.
“The 99-year-old starts to fight with the perpetrator,” Chief Kenny said. “During this fight over the door, his hand gets crushed between the door and the metal frame, and he ends up having to get stitches.”
After forcing his way inside, Rodriguez allegedly pushed a gun into the victim’s back and demanded access to the building’s office.
Once inside, he reportedly stole at least $20,000 in rent money kept in a cabinet before fleeing the scene.

Following the attack, Tur was hospitalized for his injuries. While he was recovering, he suffered a stroke that left him paralyzed on his left side which made his health rapidly decline.
Tur died on October 8, 2025, just over two weeks after the robbery.
“He ended up in intensive care and later hospice,” his grandson said. “We hope that justice is served since he killed my grandfather"
During Rodriguez’s arraignment, his lawyer, Harlan Greenberg, argued for his release on supervised bail, noting that Rodriguez lives in Philadelphia with his wife and daughter and works as a self-employed music promoter.
He also stated that Rodriguez is a legal U.S. resident who has lived in the country for nine years.
But Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Michele Rodney sided with prosecutors, who argued that Rodriguez should remain behind bars due to the severity of the crime.
Jose Miguel Tur didn’t hide his anger after seeing Rodriguez in court.
“He had the same look like he’s always had,” he said. “And that look is the look of a coward — someone who’s never accepted responsibility.”
Rodriguez is scheduled to appear in court again in February 2026, and if convicted on all charges, he could face up to 25 years in prison.
