Akron Police Intervene To Save a Woman, Chloe Jones, From a Serial Kidnapper, William Mozingo in a Startling Bodycam Footage

In a chilling incident in Kenmore, Ohio, a woman faced a horrifying ordeal when a serial kidnapper allegedly abducted her, subjected her to brutal beatings with a baseball bat, doused her in gasoline, and threatened to set her on fire.

The victim, 23-year-old Chloe Jones, was held captive in a detached garage for days, enduring unimaginable torment.

The Akron Police, responding to the alarming situation on October 16, surrounded the shed with guns drawn. Bodycam footage revealed the tense moments as they called for the suspect, William Mozingo, to surrender. As Mozingo was apprehended, officers entered the garage and assisted Chloe Jones in descending from a concealed opening in the ceiling.

Police disclosed that Jones and Mozingo were acquainted, and the abduction occurred after Mozingo offered her a ride home in October. Instead of taking her home, he took her to an outdoor shed, where he subjected her to days of captivity until the garage's owner discovered the situation and contacted the police.

According to Jones's mother, who shared the harrowing details on GoFundMe, Chloe was not only tied up but also threatened with being set on fire, beaten extensively with a baseball bat and fists, held at knifepoint, and repeatedly threatened with having her throat slit. The victim was forced to endure unspeakable conditions, including being denied bathroom breaks and choked multiple times, all while Mozingo terrorized her with the fear of never seeing her son again.

Despite the trauma, Jones credited thoughts of her son for keeping her alive. Mozingo, in a disturbing twist, allegedly used the bond between Jones and her son to torment her further, repeatedly taunting her with the idea of permanent separation.

William Mozingo was subsequently arrested and charged with assault, unlawful restraint, kidnapping, abduction, parole violation, and escape. He is currently held in Summit County Jail on a $100,000 bond, with a troubling criminal history that includes multiple incidents of abduction and violence.

Mozingo's history of criminal behavior includes a previous incident in 2019, where he kidnapped his ex-girlfriend, leaving her unconscious and undressed in his home. Despite serving prison time, he was released on parole, raising concerns about the justice system's failure to prevent further offenses.

Chloe Jones's mother expressed frustration, asserting that Mozingo had demonstrated a pattern of reoffending and that authorities were aware of the risk he posed. Akron Police Capt. Michael Miller deferred questions about Mozingo's release to corrections, and the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction did not immediately respond to inquiries.

Despite the challenges, law enforcement remains committed to enhancing the safety of Akron, acknowledging their role in aiding the victim and wishing her the best in her healing and recovery.
