Rajon Rondo, the Boston Celtics' point guard legend, landed in hot water over the weekend after getting nabbed in Indiana for carrying a gun and weed with a child in tow. Rondo, a nine-year Boston fan favorite, was pulled over on Sunday afternoon for a traffic violation. The Indiana State Police trooper claims he caught a whiff of marijuana coming from Rondo's car.
A subsequent search revealed a firearm, some weed, and drug paraphernalia tucked away in the vehicle. Unfortunately for Rondo, a legal order prohibiting him from owning guns due to a past incident made this discovery extra messy. Despite being misdemeanor charges, the situation casts a shadow over the 37-year-old champion's past troubles with the law.
This isn't Rondo's first brush with legal issues. In 2022, a Louisville woman sought protection after claiming Rondo threatened her life. He managed to get the order dismissed after completing anger management and mental health evaluations. However, another protection order filed by the same woman last March led to a more permanent agreement five months later.
Adding to the complexity, a child who was with Rondo during his arrest was placed in the care of a family member. While a court date hasn't been set yet, Rondo is expected to face the music in Jackson County Superior Court.
Remembered for his role in the Celtics' 2008 championship win and another ring with the Lakers in 2020, Rondo's All-Star talent brought him to teams like the Mavericks, Kings, Bulls, Pelicans, Hawks, Clippers, and Cavaliers. Unfortunately, his latest off-court drama adds another chapter to a career marked by both brilliance and controversy.
