Caretaker Accused of 4-Year-Old's Murder, Now Linked to Romantic Relationship with Jailer

In a local crime news, a caregiver accused of murdering a young girl, now faces allegations of a possible romantic involvement with a jailer.

Alysia Adams, 31, has been relocated from the Caddo County Jail as authorities investigate potential misconduct. The Caddo County Sheriff’s Office enlisted the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) to look into the matter, marking an ongoing investigation with no confirmed names.

Initially charged with two counts of child neglect, Adams saw an update to her case in December 2023, as she now faces a first-degree murder charge. The prosecution shifted its stance after an autopsy disproved her account that co-defendant husband Ivon Adams, 37, beat 4-year-old Athena Brownfield to death on Christmas Day 2022.

Contrary to Adams' narrative, the county medical examiner's office reported "no fatal trauma found" on Athena's body, and no broken bones were identified. The autopsy revealed the child's death as a homicide, citing "acute pneumonia complicating malnutrition." The amended charges allege that Alysia Adams confined Athena in a closet, leading to the child's malnutrition.

In addition to murder, Alysia Adams faces charges of obstructing an officer for allegedly providing false information, claiming her husband beat Athena to death. Another charge of child neglect relates to her treatment of Athena's older sister. The investigation began when Athena's then-5-year-old sister was found wandering outside the Adams' house on Jan. 10, 2023, by a postal carrier.

Ivon Adams, initially charged with first-degree murder, saw a downgrade to second-degree murder. He also faces charges of unlawful removal of a body and child neglect.

Jasmin Adina Kay Brownfield, Athena's mother, was arrested in May 2023 for allegedly abandoning her daughters with Alysia and Ivon Adams.
