In a startling turn of events, a Connecticut pastor stands accused of peddling crystal meth from his church's rectory. Reverend Herbert Miller, aged 63, from Woodbury United Methodist Church, faced arrest on Friday. He was charged with possession of narcotics with intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance, and use of drug paraphernalia, among other offenses, as outlined in a Connecticut State Police news release.
The arrest came after authorities received a tip alleging drug distribution from the rectory adjacent to the church located at 6 Church Street. According to reports from Republican-American, law enforcement apprehended Miller during a purported drug transaction set up by a cooperating witness. The pastor, expecting a rendezvous at a prearranged spot in Waterbury, found himself confronted by police instead.
Upon apprehension, Miller was found in possession of crystal methamphetamine in both solid and liquid forms, prepared for injection using a hypodermic needle. Subsequent to his arrest, a search of Miller's residence uncovered additional illicit substances and drug-related paraphernalia, as per Republican-American.
Following booking at Troop L in Litchfield, Miller was released on a $10,000 bond. He is slated to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Feb. 23 for further proceedings.
According to information from the church's website, Miller assumed his position at Woodbury church in July 2023, having previously served as pastor at First United Methodist Church in nearby Shelton, Connecticut.
