Uber Driver, Loletha Hall Killed in Scam Call Mix-Up

A horrifying incident in Ohio has left a beloved Uber driver dead and an elderly man facing murder charges.

Loletha Hall, a 61-year-old with nearly a decade of experience on the Uber platform, was tragically shot and killed on March 25th.

The shocking event unfolded after both Hall and William Brock, an 81-year-old resident of South Charleston, Ohio, became victims of a cruel scam.

According to reports from the Clark County Sheriff's Office, the incident began with a phone call received by Mr. Brock.

The caller, believed to be a scammer, pressured him for money by pretending a relative was in jail.

Shortly after, Ms. Hall received an Uber request to pick up a package at Brock's residence.

Unaware of the scam, Hall arrived at the location.

Dashcam footage captured the heartbreaking encounter.

It shows Hall approaching the house, getting out of her car, and attempting to leave after not finding a package.

However, Mr. Brock, likely confused and scared due to the scam call, followed her closely, armed with a .22 caliber revolver.

He even took her phone away to prevent her from calling for help.

Investigators believe Hall was completely innocent and posed no threat to Mr. Brock.

She was simply following the instructions received through the Uber app.

The situation escalated further when Mr. Brock refused to let Hall leave and demanded answers about her identity.

Tragically, despite opportunities to call for help or clarify the situation, Mr. Brock did not reach out to authorities.

The incident report details a horrifying struggle.

As Hall attempted to escape in her car, Mr. Brock shot her.

He was also injured during the scuffle.

Despite this, he proceeded to shoot Ms. Hall two more times.

Only then did he finally call 911.

When authorities arrived, Mr. Brock reportedly told them a "Black woman" approached his house after he received threatening phone calls all morning.

He claimed the caller threatened to kill him and his family, although he also expressed doubt about the validity of these threats.

However, he admitted to shooting Ms. Hall, initially stating it was only twice, in the leg and shoulder (investigators later found three gunshot wounds).

Following the investigation, Mr. Brock has been charged with felony murder in the first degree.

He currently awaits trial after being released on a $200,000 bond.

The Clark County Sheriff's Office is urging extreme caution and reminding everyone that legitimate authorities never collect bail or solicit funds over the phone.

Ms. Hall's family is mourning a senseless loss.
