In a developing criminal investigation, the NYPD released surveillance footage on December 30, 2024, showing a masked individual abandoning a newborn baby girl in the Bronx. 

The incident, captured by security cameras in the Longwood neighborhood, has prompted an extensive police investigation by the NYPD. 

According to News 12 Bronx, authorities are now working tirelessly to identify the person responsible for leaving the infant on a residential doorstep.

The dramatic events unfolded around 5:39 AM on December 29, 2024, on Reverend James Polite Avenue.

Officials from the local police department say the infant was discovered inside a distinctive green tote bag. 

The case has drawn significant attention from both law enforcement and the community, highlighting ongoing concerns about infant abandonment in New York City.

"I was scared. Felt compassionate. Sorry for the child," said Mamadou Hafiz Jallow, the homeowner who discovered the infant. 

"At the same time, I'm happy I saved her life. I just want the baby to be safe."

Details of the Discovery

According to NYPD reports, surveillance cameras captured footage of an unidentified person, carefully placing the green bag containing the newborn on a residential doorstep. 

The individual, whose identity remains unknown, was dressed in a dark winter coat, white pants, and white sneakers.

The criminal was also wearing a black face mask and glasses or sunglasses at the time.

The New York Post reported that the homeowner, who wasn't home at the time, was alerted by a neighbor's call about crying sounds.

This prompted them to quickly return only to find the shocking discovery

The baby girl, believed to be only a few days old, was found wrapped in pink and white blankets inside the bag. 

Emergency responders quickly transported the infant to NYC Health and Hospitals/Jacobi, where she remains in stable condition.

Ongoing Investigation

According to New York's Abandoned Infant Protection Act, parents are allowed to surrender unwanted babies up to 30 days old at safe locations without facing criminal charges. 

However, the manner of abandonment in this case has raised serious concerns among local residents and law enforcement in the Bronx.

The NYPD's Crime Scene Investigators are actively working to identify the person responsible. 

The department has released detailed footage showing the suspect walking on rain-soaked sidewalks moments before abandoning the infant.
