Who Is Dorothy Singer?
Dorothy Singer lived with her husband, Charles Singer, in West Flagler County, Florida.
She worked at a gun manufacturing facility in Daytona Beach where she handled AR-15 and M-16 rifle parts.
Family and friends described her as reserved but resourceful.
Married for three years, the couple had a seemingly tumultuous relationship.
According to FlaglerLive, the couple usually had domestic disputes and alcohol-fueled arguments.
Despite their turbulent relationship, no one could have anticipated the horrific events that would unfold in early 2017.
In February 2017, Charles Singer was reported missing.
Dorothy told neighbors and acquaintances that he had left for Georgia or Kentucky after an argument.
She portrayed Charles as an unpredictable and violent man prone to leaving for extended periods.
She maintained her claim for three months, yet, no one had seen or heard from Charles.
However, Dorothy used Charles' bank cards during this time and lived like nothing occurred.
She also fabricated text messages pretending to be him and concocted elaborate lies to mislead authorities and family members.
It wasn’t until May 2017 that the grim truth came to light after Charles Singer's family pushed for answers.
Charles Singer had been murdered and buried in a shallow grave on their property, concealed under piles of debris.

How Did the Authorities Crack the Case?
During the investigation into Charles Singer's disappearance, detectives grew suspicious of inconsistencies in Dorothy’s story.
A crucial breakthrough came when detectives analyzed Dorothy’s cell phone records
Using advanced cellular technology, they discovered that texts from Charles's phone originated near the couple’s property, despite Dorothy claiming he had traveled out of state.
This evidence contradicted her story and placed her at the scene of the crime during the time of Charles's disappearance.
When she discovered that detectives were closing in on her, Dorothy attempted to fake her own death and flee Flagler County.
However, her plans backfired, leading to her arrest.
Following her arrest, local authorities searched the couple's property thoroughly.
It was then that they found Charles Singer’s dead body in a makeshift grave, and he had suffered five gunshot wounds.

What Was the Motive?
The exact motive for Charles Singer’s murder remains shrouded in speculation.
However, the legal proceedings suggested a mix of desperation and revenge.
After Chares Singer's body was found, Dorothy admitted to fatally shooting him in self-defense.
She alleged years of domestic abuse, claiming Charles was often violent, especially when drunk.
However, her actions after the murder—using his bank cards, cleaning up the crime scene, and lying to investigators— indicated a calculated intent rather than self-defense.
Dorothy Singer's Trial and Sentence
Dorothy Singer's murder trial began in May 2018, lasting four days.
Dorothy claimed that Charles had killed her kittens in a fit of rage just before the murder, supposedly pushing her to the breaking point.
She said this led to a violent altercation which made her shoot him in self-defense.
The prosecution, however, dismissed these claims as manipulative attempts to garner sympathy, because Charles was legally blind.
They argued that Dorothy’s actions after the murder—such as hiding Charles’s body, cleaning the crime scene, and faking text messages—proved premeditation rather than a desperate act of self-defense.
Assistant State Prosecutor Jennifer Dunton, a leading attorney in Florida, meticulously dismantled Dorothy’s claims of self-defense.
She exposed Dorothy’s lies during cross-examination, including her contradictory statements and fabricated evidence.
“This case wasn’t about self-defense; it was about manipulation and cold calculation,” she said.
The jury, composed of seven women and five men, took just under four hours to reach a unanimous verdict: guilty of first-degree murder.
Ultimately, Dorothy Singer was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Charles Singer’s family, present throughout the trial, expressed relief but also deep sorrow.
For them, justice was served, but the emotional scars remain.
Undoubtedly, Dorothy Singer's story will remain one of the most infamous murder cases involving spouses.
