Cleveland Broadie: Georgia Man Indicted for Murder After Wife Dies from AIDS—Prosecutors Say He Hid His HIV Status
A man in his early 60s has been charged with murder after the death of his wife, Denise Broadie, in Rockdale County, Georgia.
Prosecutors say that the man, Cleveland Broadie, knew he was HIV-positive for years but never told his wife —or other sexual partners—before her tragic death in 2022.
According to Law & Crime, Denise Broadie had been battling breast cancer since 2017.
After going into remission twice, she continued getting sick from unexplained illnesses.
This made Denise to stay longer in the hospital and go through many tests, but doctors still couldn’t figure out what was wrong.
She later decided to try a different hospital, and after running more tests, the new doctors made a shocking discovery — Denise had AIDS.
Tragically, Denise passed away on April 2, 2022 — just two days after learning she had AIDS.

According to Fox5Atlanta, her family was devastated—and suspicious, so they hired a private investigator who dug into Cleveland’s past.
After an extensive investigation, Denise’s family discovered that Cleveland had allegedly known he was HIV-positive since 2006.
Despite his HIV-positive status, he married Denise in 2014 — eight years later — and never told her he allegedly had AIDS.
“There was malice in what he did,” Denise’s daughter, Karen Young, told newsmen.
“At any time, he could have told her and given her the right to make the decision to stay with him. Not that she would have.”

Before Cleveland was charged with murder, he had already been charged with three counts of reckless conduct in 2023 after several women came forward.
They all claimed that he had unprotected sex with them without disclosing his HIV status.
Her family said that if Denise had known, she would have taken better care of herself sooner.
According to the criminal complaint, prosecutors argue that Denise’s death was a direct result of Cleveland’s actions.
Denise’s family describes her as a loving matriarch who didn’t deserve such betrayal from her husband.
Her brother revealed that Cleveland had been kicked out by Denise at one point for allegedly cheating but was later allowed back home.
Now, the family is urging others to get tested for STDs and know their partner’s status.
Cleveland Broadie has pleaded not guilty to the reckless conduct charges but has yet to enter a plea for the murder charges.
If convicted, he could face life in prison, as reported by Atlanta News First.
As the criminal investigation continues, Denise’s family hopes justice will finally be served.
