In a shocking incident, an 11-year-old boy from Wisconsin is facing trial as an adult after allegedly shooting his mother in the face when she refused to buy him a virtual reality headset on Amazon.
The boy, whose identity remains undisclosed, underwent evaluation by two psychologists before Judge Jane Carroll decided to try him as an adult, despite differing opinions from the psychologists about his competence.
According to Fox News, the prosecution stated that the child was aware of the gravity of his actions, understanding that his case was in adult court and involved serious charges.
Prosecutors allege that the boy confronted his mother, Quiana Mann, with a gun he accessed from a lockbox in their home, intending to scare her, but tragically shot her in the face.
Initially considered an accident, the shooting was later deemed intentional after the boy's second questioning by the police.
Concerns were raised about the boy's history of anger issues and therapy, and he had reportedly been undergoing treatment for mood disorders.
The devastating incident has left Mann's family shattered. She was close to completing her master's degree in business before her untimely death.
The boy's trial for first-degree intentional homicide is scheduled for September 5.
In Wisconsin, children as young as 10 can be charged as adults for severe crimes like intentional homicide.
