In a tragic incident that has shaken the community, a 25-year-old man from Coquitlam faces severe charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder with a firearm following the fatal shooting of a Ridge Meadows RCMP officer.
On a fateful Friday, Constable Rick O’Brien lost his life in the line of duty while the police were executing a search warrant at a residence in Coquitlam, as part of a drug investigation. This devastating incident also resulted in injuries to two other officers and the suspect himself.
Nicholas Bellemare, the 25-year-old in custody, has been charged in connection with this tragic event, and he remains behind bars. The loss of Constable O’Brien is deeply profound, with far-reaching consequences for his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire community.
Superintendent Mandeep Mooker, Office-in-Charge of IHIT (Integrated Homicide Investigation Team), expressed condolences, acknowledging the enduring impact of this tragedy on those affected.
