Deception Unveiled: Woman Admits to Staging Car Trouble, And Fatally Shooting Florida College Student Who Tried To Help Her

A woman with a history of deception reached a plea agreement on Monday, trading it for a thirty-year prison sentence. Her charges stem from a tragic incident where she fatally shot a college student in Florida in front of his girlfriend, who they had stopped to assist.

Yasmine Hider, aged 21, will be required to plead guilty to murder, robbery, and kidnapping in an Alabama federal court for the attack that occurred on August 14, 2022, involving victims Adam Simjee and Mikayla Paulus.

However, a judge's approval is still pending for this agreement.

Just before Hider entered into this agreement, Mikayla Paulus penned a heartfelt tribute to her late boyfriend, Adam Simjee, on the anniversary of his tragic death.

She shared on Facebook, "This is just the first year of many without him, but I see him everywhere. There is never a moment that goes by where he's not on my mind. The rest of my life will be a love letter to him. I'll miss you and love you forever sweet boy."

The heart-wrenching incident unfolded when Hider flagged down the University of Central Florida students while they were driving through Alabama's Cheaha State Park in search of waterfalls.

She claimed her XB Scion had broken down about an eighth of a mile away and requested their help.

The students agreed to help and followed her to her car. They attempted to use jumper cables to start her vehicle while Hider sat in the driver's seat. Mikayla Paulus even called her father, who is a mechanic, for guidance.

Unbeknownst to the couple, the Scion had actually broken down weeks earlier, and this was all part of a ruse to rob them.

Suddenly, Hider pulled out a gun and ordered them to "empty their pockets and walk further into the woods," according to the plea agreement.

Simjee responded, "Everything we have is in the van. You can have it," before drawing a pistol from his waistband and instructing her to drop her weapon. Hider's response was, "Are you serious?" followed by opening fire.

A chaotic gunfight ensued, and both Hider and Simjee sustained gunshot wounds.

With three gunshot wounds to her abdomen and one to her leg, Hider was slumped against a fallen pine tree, asking, "Why did you shoot me? It wasn't supposed to be like this." Her alleged accomplice, Krystal Pinkins, briefly emerged from the woods and then fled.

In the midst of the chaos, Paulus called 911 and attempted to save Simjee, who had been shot in the abdomen.

As Simjee lost consciousness, Paulus used her shirt to staunch the bleeding and began performing chest compressions. Tragically, Simjee stopped breathing.

The suspects had been living "off the grid" in the Talladega National Forest near the crime scene and reportedly had connections with cult leader Rashad Jamal White.

Investigators tracked Pinkins to a base camp of tents, and remarkably, her five-year-old son emerged from the woods carrying a loaded gun, as described in court documents. He eventually placed the weapon down, leading to Pinkins' arrest.

Pinkins allegedly confessed to FBI agents that she had given the gun to Hider.

It was revealed that they had attempted the same scheme on an older woman the day before, but the intended victim refused to follow them to the car, according to Pinkins' statement. Her case remains pending.
