Former Babylon Teacher Pleads Guilty in Student Sex Abuse Case And Also Gives Up His Teaching Licence

A former high school teacher in Babylon, New York, has admitted guilt in the case of endangering a child's welfare by engaging in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student nearly a decade ago.

Timothy Harrison, 48, hailing from Oak Beach, New York, entered his guilty plea on Friday, agreeing to one of the conditions in the plea deal, which requires him to surrender his teaching license.

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney commended the young woman's bravery for reporting the crime, which occurred eight years earlier, stating that Harrison, in his role as an educator, abused his position and exploited the teenage student.

Tierney emphasized that this guilty plea ensures Harrison's removal from the teaching profession, safeguarding current and future students from his predatory behavior.

According to the DA's office, the investigation and plea agreement revealed that between September and November 2013, Harrison engaged in inappropriate conduct, including sending flirtatious text messages, providing alcohol, and having sexual intercourse and oral sexual contact with the 15-year-old victim at his Oak Beach residence.

The victim initially reported the sexual abuse to Babylon High School in 2021 before turning to the Suffolk County Police Department's Special Victim Section.

Harrison was subsequently arrested on March 3, 2022.

Harrison made his guilty plea appearance before Suffolk County Court Judge Karen M. Wilutis. He pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of a child, classified as a misdemeanor.

His sentencing is scheduled for November 9, 2023.
