Sunshine State Sonar, an organization that searches for missing persons in South Florida, confirmed the identity of the remains.
They stated that the remains belonged to 35-year-old Doris Wurst and her 3-year-old daughter, Caren.
The mother and daughter disappeared from their home at 13411 NW 2nd Street in Plantation on November 12, 1974.
The Plantation Police Department stated that the mother’s 1961 Chevrolet Impala was also missing.
Police have informed the next of kin about the likelihood that the remains of their loved ones have been found.
Police are still waiting for confirmation through DNA and dental records.
The disappearance of the mother and daughter turned into a cold case in 1975, with follow-up investigations taking place in 1977, 1988, 1992, 1994, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2017, and 2018.
Despite these efforts, no leads were successful, and the mother and daughter remained missing.
