A father from Utah is accused of killing his 25-year-old daughter, who worked as a sheriff's deputy.
After the murder, he managed to escape the country.
Hector Ramon Martinez-Ayala, 54, is alleged to have killed his daughter, Marbella Martinez.
His actions before the murder revealed a disturbing picture of a man obsessed with jealousy.
Father’s Troubling Mindset Revealed
Investigators have obtained key evidence in the form of text messages between Martinez-Ayala and his daughter.
According to court documents, the content of the father’s texts resembled those of a jealous lover rather than a concerned parent.
His obsessive behavior had been getting worse, causing concern among people close to the family.
Sadly, Martinez-Ayala's behavior eventually led to a fatal confrontation.
Prosecutors believe his actions went far beyond normal parental concerns.
They say he shifted from being a concerned parent to engaging in full-blown stalking.
Hector Martinez-Ayala placed a tracking device on his daughter’s car.
This allowed him to monitor her movements.
He used this device on July 29, 2024, to track Marbella and a romantic interest to a hiking area called Bates Canyon.
Following the incident, Marbella stayed at a hotel before returning home on July 31, 2024.
Security footage showed that she was last seen inside her home at 12:23 p.m. that day.
By 2:17 p.m., her father came back to the house.
Shortly afterward, the home’s surveillance cameras were either turned off or disconnected from the internet.
This suggests that someone deliberately tried to hide a crime.
Authorities noted that all video recorded after the defendant's arrival at 2:17 p.m. was either deleted or never existed.
This was due to the camera being disabled after Hector Martinez-Ayala arrived.
On the morning of August 1, 2024, officers were dispatched to the home that Marbella Martinez shared with her father.
Upon entering the residence, they made a grisly discovery.
The young deputy was found lying on top of her bed, covered with a blanket up to her neck.
Investigators later determined that she had been strangled.
Chilling Confession and Desperate Flight
In a chilling twist, Hector Martinez-Ayala sent a text message to his brother just hours after the murder.
The message read: “My brother, you know how much I love you. I made a big mistake, an unforgivable sin. Now I’m too scared, and I don’t know what to do. I think I will never come back.”
Authorities believe Martinez-Ayala got rid of his daughter’s phone before fleeing the country.
Surveillance footage captured him at Salt Lake City’s airport, where he boarded a flight to San Francisco.
From there, he traveled to Houston.
He then allegedly used his brother’s identification to leave the country.
His last known location was outside of the United States, but his current whereabouts remain unknown.

Charges Filed and Allegations of a Stalker Father
On Friday, September 6, 2024, Martinez-Ayala was officially charged with murder, even though he is outside the country.
He is also facing additional charges alongside the murder charge.
This includes two counts of obstruction of justice, stalking a cohabitant, unlawful possession and use of financial transaction cards, and unlawful possession of someone else’s identification.
These charges are related to the various illegal activities he is accused of committing before and after the murder.
Authorities believe Martinez-Ayala fled the country after killing his daughter to avoid being caught.
Tooele City Police Department’s Corporal Colbey Bentley stated, "We as a department are working with numerous agencies around the clock to bring Hector into custody for what he did.
As we strive to give Deputy Marbella Martinez the justice she is owed, we plead with anyone who may have helpful information or who may be actively helping hide Hector to do the right thing and help us bring him into custody."
